Illicit Supply Chain Coordination (ISCM) Meeting - Singapore

CSI was very proud to co-host this three day event (2-4 June) at INTERPOL’s Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore that brought together representatives from law enforcement and border agencies, customs authorities, postal and logistics operators, international organizations, and private sector partners.

Organized by a multi-agency steering group that included INTERPOL, the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Universal Postal Union, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), CSI was honored to contribute to discussions with our CEO Hayley van Loon moderating several panel sessions.

With a focus on intelligence sharing, emerging threats, and coordinated action to disrupt criminal activity across global supply chains, the ISCM reinforced the importance of collective action and information sharing in protecting communities worldwide and provided a valuable platform to strengthen collaboration against illicit supply chains and transnational criminal networks.

Issue 2 - CSI Global Perspectives series

Authored by David Higgins, a member of CSI’s Specialist Advisory Panel and former Head of Environment Security at INTERPOL, we are proud to publish the second paper in the CSI Global Perspectives series, Environmental Crime: from Invisible Harm to Global Security Threat.

The paper examines how environmental crime has transformed over the last 25 years from a peripheral concern into a central challenge for global security. How it has diversified, expanded, and embedded itself within broader criminal systems - while the harm caused remains largely ‘invisible’.

Importantly, the paper recommends a three-pronged approach to carve out a way forward; to shift both perception and response:

  1. Environmental crime must be recognized as serious organized crime, not as a secondary regulatory issue.

  2. Focus must expand beyond criminal justice systems to intelligence-led policing, financial investigations, and international cooperation; and

  3. Public awareness must evolve to recognize the scale and urgency of the problem to, in turn, achieve a strengthening of political will globally.

Crime Stoppers Romania

Warmest congratulations are extended to Razvan Alexandru following the Bucharest Court’s decision this month to officially grant legal personality to register the Foundation and to approve the establishment of Crime Stoppers Romania (CSRO).

Razvan has more than 25 years’ experience in law enforcement, He is recently retired as Chief Commissioner of Police and Head of FAST Romania (Fugitive Active Search Teams) and was POC for ENFAST, the European Network equivalent. His career focused largely on criminal investigations and organized crime, and he worked closely with Europol, served as Head of INTERPOL Romania, and led the Witness Protection Unit. Razvan’s outstanding service to public safety and contributions to international cooperations saw him formally recognized with the White Medal of Merit from the Spanish Minister of Interior, and the Medal of Honor from the Romanian Police.

Sincere thanks also to CSI VP Mick Duthie for the support he has lent Razvan, to date. No doubt, this was instrumental in allowing Razvan to confidently and comprehensively respond to the many detailed questions the Court posed during the hearing in relation to anonymity, GDPR compliance, relationships with law enforcement authorities, and how the Crime Stoppers model, carefully adapted to the Romanian legal framework, would function in practice.

As Razvan noted on learning of the outcome, “This decision represents a major step forward for civic engagement in Romania and validates our vision of a secure and anonymous mechanism designed to encourage community involvement and responsible information sharing, built around the professional standards of the Crime Stoppers family.”
