To mobilize the world, by empowering communities and individual citizens everywhere, to anonymously report information about crime.
Crime Stoppers International links a worldwide network of affiliated and accredited Crime Stoppers programs that educate communities about crime and give citizens a way to share information anonymously.
We are a global for-purpose charity with 501(c)(3) status, governed by a Board of Directors, run day to day by an executive management team, and advised by a Specialist Advisory Panel of leaders from the corporate world, academia and law enforcement.
In July 1976 a young filling station attendant was shot dead on a Friday night in a well-lit, well-travelled part of Albuquerque. Six weeks on, the police had no leads and no one willing to talk. The investigating detective was certain somebody knew something.
He asked a local television station to air a re-enactment, promoted a telephone number people could call without giving their name, and set up a community board to fund a 300 dollar reward.
The next day someone called and identified the car leaving the scene. The caller had good reason not to be involved in the case. The tip led police to the two men responsible and the murder was solved in under 72 hours. That was the beginning of Crime Stoppers, and of the network now affiliated with Crime Stoppers International.
